Have you heard about the colossal title fight, coming up? Nobody’s quite sure of the date but it’s just around the corner. Whether it be one year, three years or five years from now, it’s not a long time to get started training, preparing a strategy and working toward peak physical and mental condition. Oh, by the way, we’re all on the fight card.
Veteran commentators such as Ruppert, Kunstler, Campbell, Simmons, Bakhtiari, Skrebowski and Heinberg have all been warning of the number one contender’s devastating arsenal of weapons. Take his jab, cross combinations for instance, which can reduce road, air and sea transport to a trickle, decimating what’s left of the global economy. Or the speed at which he can produce a one-punch-knockout of the farming system, creating supply breaks in food production and distribution.
In recent times, a newcomer to the commentary arena, ITPOES, introduces us to three scenarios pertinent to the challenger’s ultimate impact on the world stage. “Plateau”, “descent” or “collapse.” ITPOES regards the “descent” scenario as highly probable and fears the possibility of a “crash” scenario. Upon deeper contemplation, the weight ITPOES’ opinion brings to the bout and the outcomes their research indicates should make very clear, once and for all, that we are the underdog in this fight. The fact they fear the possibility of the “collapse” scenario at all, sends chills down my spine.
Clifford J. Wirth, Ph.D of Peak Oil Associates has been studying the rise of the contender for years now. In his report entitled “Peak Oil: Alternatives, Renewables and Impacts”, Wirth explains:
“Multiple Crises will cripple a nation in a gridlock of ever-worsening problems. Within a few decades, the U.S will lack automobile, truck, air and rail transportation, as well as mechanized agriculture, adequate food and water supplies, electric power, sanitation, home heating, hospital care and government services.”
In the face of such an opponent, we need to immediately embark on implementing a training regime for ourselves. In the process, we also need to passionately inform as many people as possible of the fact they appear on the fight card, so they better get training, too.
This fight’s rules are completely unpredictable so attempting to prepare for all possible variables is madness. Your preparation should acknowledge this unpredictability and make it the foundation stone upon which all other training and preparation is built. Another important acknowledgement should be this fight might not be winnable. In fact, we may find ourselves fighting with everything we have with the goal to go down as gracefully as possible with the least damage because anything else is simply beyond our capacity.
So what sort of training should we engage in? Specifically, this will depend on your location, it’s connection to the rest of the world, how much time you have, how much money you have and how much passion you have. These points are just scratching the surface, though.
In general terms, educating yourself and practicing permaculture, basic survivalism, camping and bushcraft skills will greatly enhance your stamina in this fight. I’m aware many commentators disagree with this concept but our view at AlienWorld is ‘something is better than nothing’. It’s better to know it and exaggerate preparations than to find yourself in the ring with the leviathan in that “crash” scenario ITPOES fears as a possibility.
Re-evaluating where you live is another essential element of your training and prep work. Do you live near trains and buses? Do you work far from home? Can you get to work if you had no car at all? If the answer is ‘no’ to these vital questions then you need to start preparing a ‘plan B’ for work. Nobody said this would be easy. If you’re serious, you need to actually start doing some of this training instead of just reading, surfing and posting.
Start growing your own food. If you don’t have a garden, do what I did and start a box garden. I got the idea from Simon Beer, a fellow sparring partner and survivalist. Start stocking up on rations and water purification tablets. You don’t have to start big. Small, consistent rations put away every week, fortnight or month are worth more than you can ever imagine in a crisis situation. Whatever you can afford. Remember, something is better than nothing.
You can buy a 1/20 of an ounce gold bullion coin whenever you can afford it. They’re around $100 at the moment. Email me and I’ll tell you where to buy them. For you smokers, cut down on just two packets per week and there’s your gold money every month.
If you don’t have a good quality tent, back-pack and sleeping bag, think about getting these things together. I know it sounds extreme but just take a moment to clearly get your head around what we’re facing here. Apply rational and logical thought and what’s extreme is waving a hand and dismissing the notion of preparation. What’s extreme is not giving a shit, especially for those of us with children. I can tell you now, when the SHTF, my best little mate is going to have a chance at least, because of all the dress rehearsals Mummy and Daddy played with him.
Other things you can add to your training and prep are informing yourself about our opponent. Get to know the ins and outs. Studying him carefully by reading up on serious research done by ASPO, Peak Oil Consulting, Peak Oil Associates and others. Visit websites, read books, watch DVD’s, talk to your friends and family about it, start networking with others who are already preparing for the bout. Learn from them. Relocalise yourself in as many aspects as you possibly can. Don’t be afraid to make a start. Something is better than nothing.
Now turn up the rocky music - I’ll see you around the traps, sparring partner.
